Exarchia, a district in Athens marked by left-wing activism and solidarity with refugees, is shaped by vacancy and the aftermath of Greece’s economic crisis. Many refugees remain stranded here, suspended in bureaucratic uncertainty and social exclusion. Over the years, squatted buildings offered temporary shelter and collective resistance. Since July 2019, most of these spaces have been erased through forced evacuations and police presence, intensifying tension as gentrification advances. Yet forms of solidarity persist. My photographs trace these places and the people moving through them, seeking a quiet sense of displacement in the relationship between human presence and space.
